I have 3.5+ years of FP&A experience. Overall 6+ corporate finance experience. My current title is Specialist of FP&A, I manage an entire P&L and I’m target a new role at the Manager level. I constantly keep getting bites, interviews. I have made it to final round over 5 times now and seem to get rejected at the last stage.

Any advice?
And target comp I should set for FP&A Manager in NYC with my background?

Have you considered working on your writing style? That might be a concern.

      Fix it for you:
(Note: this jargon makes no sense to me so I took my best stab at it).

"I am applying for new roles as someone with 6+ years of corporate finance experience, 3.5 of which include FP&A experience. Currently, I am a Specialist of FP&A and I manage the entire P&L of an organization generating $XXb/yr. I am trying to target a new role that would move me into a leadership position. I have interviewed at YY companies, and have made it to the On-Site stage 5 times. For a reason I do not understand, I keep getting rejected at this final stage. Fellow Blinders - do you have any advice that I might follow to be successful?"

What experience do you have with ERP and EPM softwares? That was one thing holding me back, as the companies I worked for would exclusively build in Excel. I got to final round interviews and the feedback was that everyone loved me, but I didn’t have experience in Hyperion/Planful/Adaptive/etc. I was finally able to get a manger role last month because they liked my experience with Netsuite. Now able to learn planful and soon switching over to Workday Adaptive.

    • I have run EPM practices for 15 years leading tool evaluations and implementations for F500s. I've spoken at all the conferences, I've been a part of the advocacy programs (ACE Champions, etc). I know them inside and out. It's ALL I do.

If you don't know what OneStream is, you're 5 years behind.

    • A lot of dumb requirements like this all over the place. A competent person can easily come up to speed on any of these systems. There are plenty for incompetent people with years of experience in X system.

I did consulting in this space prior to settling in FP&A

  • I feel you on this , I’m on the same boat at 6/6 final interviews no offers. As many have suggested, final interviews are almost luck to be liked or not. Keep your head up! You got this on the next one.

  • Also don’t ever think the interviews are a waste. It hones you and makes you think of quick scenarios on your next interviews!
