150K in Austin is great. Much better than 200K in SF. Also, no state tax in TX.

Austin is great. You can always work from home on a shitty day, flying weekly is hot garbage

It’s not about saving money it’s about what work he gets to do at Uber vs SRE at indeed

    First of all, congrats!

I'd definitely pick Indeed. Residency can be rough, I wouldn't want to miss out being there to emotionally support the wife.

Flying from SFO -> AUS every week is crazy! Why are people even recommending the Uber offer?

You should definitely pick Indeed. That’s a pretty good offer for Austin.

You'll have a great life in Austin with $150k, especially if your wife is a doctor/nurse as well. I think the traveling might put too much pressure on your marriage.

Congrats OP! If you want your marriage to last, do Indeed. Medical residencies are hard enough on marriages as it is.

WTF is up with all these voter pimping Uber? I doubt you will see a penny of the extra 50k TC after CA taxes, SF rents, commuting to AUS, etc. etc., and you'll have a far shittier WLB.

You proved once that you can make it in the SFBA. Give it 2 years, and you'll make it again.

Reason for my vote to uber
      Uber > indeed
      Uber SWE >>>> indeed SRE
OP can work for a year or so and move to austin indeed or whatever company

Dude stay in Texas. Trust me SF is over rated and the 25% increase isn’t worth it

Why do you need to be with wife every week? Alternate week is good enough.

And btw that your wife is going to be a doc while you’re a mere swe, ever make you regret your career choice?

I didn’t mean it monetarily, OP would make more if at FANG.
But when someone close to you has a much cooler career, it’s reasonable to make one wish —even very slightly— for a better career.
