I'm thinking about taking a 24 week part time bootcamp. The options are fintech or Data science. Fintech has modules on crypto/blockchain with programming deep dives into python. On the other hand, Data science is straight up going through all the programming knowledges incl SQL and Python. Which one do you think is more useful? I'm leaning towards data science bc I can apply it to my finance job now and knowing languages will let me have more exposure to different companies.
Doing fp&a now, fairly senior at this point but I notice all the jobs these days are looking for SQL. Figure doing the data science bootcamp can help get me into this companies.
In finance you need sql and excel/vba, it was always like this
Data science
DS hands-down. Fintech is much more nonspecific than DS and also more saturated job market-wise
DS is also bullshit. Just do swe bootcamp.
Which fintech companies would you be looking toward?
Curious to know everyone's thoughts on this as well. Just cleared the interview and was invited into a 24-week data analytics program at UCI. Also currently working in finance in commercial banking as an underwriter/analyst/portfolio manager sort of role.
Imo doing those “fintech” boot camps are just milking the hype. Learn data science and get into fintech. Everything is ultimately data the “fintech” concepts are how that data is used in a business sense. That you can learn on the job. Data science is a skill vs fintech is more of a hype keyword. Banks sending a csv file to a Dropbox is technically considered “fintech “.
What fintech bootcamp?
Data science.. fintech can be learnt on the job and public domain, besides no one can teach fintech... it is like saying.. I am going to learn healthcare in a course. -someone who has lived this world for 10 years
What course are you considering in data science
It depends on your background. Both are generally fluff
