I was let go from Microsoft around three or four years ago. I never found out exactly why but I was definitely fired. Is this a permanent Blacklist? And is it a blacklist from vendor as well as FTE? Is there any way that someone would be able to look up the details for me on my exact situation?
Not as a vendor. I know a really great guy who got fired because of his true moron manager, and he joined as a vendor, because of blacklist. Can you apply as an FTE, I don't know, sorry. Not an hr...
Are you 100 sure as a vendor? I was told by HR after being fired that even no vendor
I am sure in this particular case (formal reason: low performance, so there is no reason to not hire as a vendor). Definitely it does not cover all cases. I.e. if there was a criminal investigation and damages for the company, I am pretty sure that even not a vendor.
So was is layoff or were you fired? Firing someone is not easy as manager needs to gather enough evidence to prove. My manager said it takes a year to fire someone; therefore, I suspect it was layoff. If it was layoff, I think you can come back after 1.5 year or something. Were you FTE or vendor?
I worked with a guy who was laid off. He got a fat severance package, and spent few months travelling... He got rehired less than a year after layoff, no objection from hr.
Definitely not a layoff. It was only like 3 months in. And they said something about low performance and I didn't respond to attempts to manage my low performance even though there actually were no attempts or even any communication with my manager. That's when they told me that there doesn't really need to be a reason. I was FTE
I guess the best way to know would be to apply for a job there. Reach out to your previous co-worker and see if anyone is hiring.
I'm actually super happy with my current position. I just would like to know that the option is out there just in case. Not being able to work at Microsoft is taking a lot of jobs off the table if I need to look
No, no it isn't. Your single sightedness is.
I know a guy who was laid off. He got a severance package, and got rehired less than 2 years after layoff, no objection from hr.
Let me be the mean guy in the room to ask you if you really are sure you don't know the reason you are fired, and were not communicated on any improvement plan. Ignorant of improvement plan or warning is firable for sure, but if they set you up and pretend that you are on improvement plan but you are not, you can sue them for wrongful termination. Are you really sure you don't know? You may not be blacklisted but you will not have a good reputation to get back in.
This OP is just an incompetent idiot, or trolling for amusement. Of course he knows why he was fired - incompetence and refusal to accept performance plan. If so, he deserves to be blacklisted at all companies, even Amazon. Either way, ignore
Wow that is cruel. Especially facebook guy.
I am really sure. And there is no such thing as wrongful termination in the state of Washington look it up. You can only sue if you are a protected class and you're fired for being part of that class
You are incompetent and fired for poor performance. Own it. Work harder
Facebook, don't be a douche.
I got a promotion this year but honestly dont know why. Would love to know why. Does this mean im permanently whitelisted?
Yes. Ok to stop working, rest and vest. Show up at work only when you want to find a lunch partner or happy hour pal.
Not sure why everyone doubts the OP. He was only there for three months then fired. No doubt he was doing something below expectations from his manager. But it's entirely possible he had a really shitty manager that never did give him proper feedback. Could be that the manager is also lying to HR saying there were clear feedbacks but then in 1:1 with the OP was sugar coating it until he was fired. Lots of new managers and bad managers have difficulty actually delivering negative feedback. Entirely possible this manager was upwardly saying feedback is being delivered then going to talk to the OP and making only really mild statements. I've seen that before. So then the OP might have a wrongful termination case, but it would be really hard to prove and even if he won, what would he get? With only three months employment he might win maximum a couple weeks pay. If that. So I don't think most people would bring that case, too much work and hard to prove for too little reward. Those who are doubting the story do you REALLY think there are no bad managers at MSFT? There are lots of bad managers out there. OP, you probably did fall short somewhere and maybe you can think of things you could do better but I don't doubt your story.
Thank you. This is all exactly correct.
rofl. This post is amusing! Seriously, you don't know yourself why were you fired? I agree with the Facebook guy, this post was probably open for trolling.
How come you were fired (i.e. not a layoff) and you don't know why? You must know what wrong things you did, even if you don't know whether they found out. If you definitely did nothing wrong, and you were given no explanation of why you were fired, then you can sue them for wrongful termination.
I honestly have no clue and was given no real reason. Washington is an at will state so no wrongful termination. I feel it was something to do with a boss trying to cut costs and I had only been there a short time. but she was horrible anyway. I would honestly love to know why.
You said: "I feel it was something to do with a boss trying to cut costs and I had only been there a short time." Then it's a layoff, not a firing. Hence no blacklist. Problem solved.
