Hello friends,

I had a 2 hour video interview with Wells Fargo on Thursday. It went well. The recruiter called me yesterday, and informed me that the team finished interviewing all candidates and they want to know my comp expectations in order to make a decision. They need a range from me by Monday.
During my initial screen with the recruiter, she told me the range for the role is 145-155k, level is senior associate, and would require relocation to San Francisco. The role is 70% data analytics and 30% PM. The team focuses on operational excellence transformation.

I have 12 YOE, live in Nyc, and 155k seems like a low ball number, especially for financial services.

Thoughts please?

Edit: I should mention I'm currently unemployed. Was previously at jpmorgan. My whole team was eliminated.

  • Since you are currently unemployed take the role155k and request WFH. But keep looking for a better opportunity.

    • For tech folks, most if not all financials do not give out rsu

They do give options and particularly they will buy out rsus in the rare cases that they hire from FAANG and the like. But it's not common when not hiring someone with unvested rsus already.
If you are more senior (director/executive director+) and have good bonuses, the extra is given as deferred comp, typically with a 3 year vest. Normally options.

If I was currently unemployed, I would take up anything that comes up while looking for the next big opportunity

  • what title is the role? that seems like an associate for wf? i think their base was around 120k for associates there. The bonus is really lob dependent, so if you can provide more flavor to the details i can help.

    • I know you probably don’t see the silver lining yet but... I think you dodged a bullet. You’re a data scientist! If Blind has taught me anything, you should be working in tech.

Ah, thanks :) definitely needed that self esteem boost. I'm going to keep looking in tech. Will keep persisting with the blind community's support!
