HR asked me more equity or more cash. Why should I answer? Also asking this as I have other startup offers. Also, Is flexport a good place to work?
Good place to work what was offer
Heard it was somewhat weaker on the engineering side, though that may have changed
Heard the same thing. Less of a tech company than traditional startups. They are more operations heavy.
It’s true that we employ a lot of people in operations. But go stalk our engineers on LinkedIn if you don’t believe we are building real tech.
Usually they wanna hear you ask for more equity to demonstrate that you believe in the company...

Cash over equity unless equity gives u more dollar amount
Thanks. How do I evaluate equity?
Calculate potential exit values based on market comps and confidence you think it would hit that in timeframe. Ie, 100M exit (90%) in 1 yr, 500M (50%), 1B, 10B (1%) but over 10 years. Calculate how much you’d stand to make in those scenarios. Maybe in the best scenario you’d make $1M but you’d have to wait for 10 years for liquidity. Compare the median outcome to what you’d earn at Google. If that is much higher than you’re making now and confidence in that outcome is high, it’s probably worth it
