Hello to everyone in the Blind Community,

I just got a verbal offer from Tesla as an Integration Engineer and wanted an opinion about negotiating a salary(base + stocks) with them.
Tesla is notoriously known for its low pay, but recent posts on Blind show that the numbers are going up.
I have 4 years of revelant experience with same job at different EV companies.
I don't want to overstep and ruin my chances at an actual offer and at the same time don't want to short sell myself.
Any tips to negotiate a decent compensation is appreciated. Also, what range should I expect?

Recruiter here. Just give us an expectation and if it’s below the midpoint we will push you up to that and if it’s above we have to chat with compensation + our director for approval.

JUST BE HONEST IT MAKES EVERYTHING SO MUCH EASIER FOR BOTH PARTIES.

I've passed FAANG interviews and worked at a major tech companies. I'm happy to help coach people switch jobs or get promos, for a fee. Fwiw, I'm good at it.

The recruiter (@vroom) is totally right. In most cases these days, the recruiter is fighting for you. I agree @ugaz, but at least they'll be helpful to you, rather than actively unhelpful (which I fear is what some people mistakenly think). You've passed the interview, the company does not want to lose you (it's expensive to find good people), and the recruiter is tasked with closing the deal with you. There's no competent recruiter that wants any part of low balling you. They are almost certainly fighting for you behind closed doors (as is the manager). Source: I'm a manager, I hire a few people each year, partnering with recruiters (good and bad) each time.

@ vroom, I had multiple offers at the time I was dealing with TESLA re: comp. The recruiter I dealt with was as if I was at a fish market when it came to negotiating. He offered me $x at the beginning as base, a day after $ (x+3k) and when I told him that it was lesser than my then TC and base pay, he right away added another 5k to the base. So, do you guys get commission or something if you can close a deal for 5K less than you were told by ppl higher up? or you get to keep that 5k?

Ask them for a range for the position, then use that info to tell them your offer

Wrong, give your high number first to anchor the discussion. Double your current TC

    Here is my 2 cent:
Don't ruin your opportunity being myopic with TC. Get what you can, work hard, learn as much as you can, move on to the next position, if that happens inside your company great, otherwise the Bay has many more opportunities to offer. TC will come.
