Joining uber soon, I'm pumped and bullish on the firm. However see a lot of chatter here. Thoughts on: 1. General sentiment 2. Opinion on leadership and CEO 3. Do people believe in the mission 4. Opinion on the stock situation Anything would be appreciated. Just want to get a temperature.
Friend works there.. he says it’s a glorified taxi callcenter...
Does he know Uber is more than ride sharing
Is it? :) U meant call center for food delivery too! Where my food does a rideshare :) :)
I’m new and love it. Working on defining culture. I appreciate the transparency from the ELTA. Stock doesn’t have me concerned.
1. Sentiment ain’t great, but it’s getting better 2. Opinion on leadership is mostly negative except for CFO 3. People believe people will continue to use ridehailing and delivering. People aren’t convinced Uber will win 4. Many believe it’s undervalued but wouldn’t be surprise if it went to 20 Do want to note that it’s a great place to work and many discount their stock in their minds. Welcome to Uber
I think opinion of CEO has been getting better now that Manik was canned. General opinion of next highest PM (Sundeep) is very positive as well.
Temporarily uninstall blind and just focus on work. You have already taken the plunge so might as well give it a good shot.
I would say it is better! Leadership is much focused on execution now. Lot of challenging projects to work. Of course the old timers are leaving or will leave. You can still find bad culture etc but I would say it’s not as bad. As long you join a good org it’s worth giving a shot.
What are the better engineering orgs in terms of learning and career growth? Which one to avoid ?
How’s the Uber - Financial Products team?
Someone tell me how Uber will ever make money until AV replace drivers. Meanwhile you are in a heavily commoditized industry with low margins (see: airlines)
Ride share is profitable. R&D and Eats subs is where they spend money, most of that in India which they are selling. I’m an Uber bull to $65
I ALWAYS open both apps and pick the cheapest, and if too expensive for both I take a cab...
How often do you perform this exercise? (Six times a year? 100 times per year?) How often does Uber lose out on your business?
The point is there is no customer loyalty. As soon as a competitor with better rates arrives, drivers and riders will have no problem switching over. This is a fundamental limit to the ridesharing business model. You operate in an extremely tight profit margin without competition coming in at a lower price. This is not scalable and does not justify the high growth priced into your valuations
The internal culture is not as effected by the IPO news as you'd think. I've worked at a few different tech companies and Uber is my favorite so far, with the most pay.
5+ years at Uber. Nuff said. The tides will ebb and flow but the long term play is still strong.
