recently there was a lot of controversy at walmart labs coz of forced ranking. talented colleagues had to be rated as meeting below expectations so their bonus was cut in half or no bonus at all. it came suddenly, no warning at all i heard our colleagues at jet. com are not under this system. is true ?
Jet had the same ranking
This says to managers “we don’t trust your judgement or ability to performance manage through the year so we’ll force it”. It says to associates “don’t help or develop those around you so they will be more likely to end up on that curve instead of you”. It says to managers “don’t manage out your poor performers instead save them as sacrificial lambs at eval time”. It says to associates “hoard knowledge and make sure you are the only one that has some important skill”. Oh...and make sure people REALLY like you!
Not true, same thing in Jet.
Same thing at jet. Second if they’re performing they won’t get partial. The meets+ curve is 80% of population.
Not true...it didn't come suddenly. Unless you were away for the last 3-4 quarters it was all announced, including the limits
where was it announced?
3 to 4 quarters, are you talking about year or alcohol, anyway it was announced but only in last quarter
Yeah, when and where was it announced?
Why they have to copy all these shitty things from amazon...
Because they want to be like Amazon, even when it comes to shitty stuff
Because they copy without using their brains about why. Talk about leaders and followers
A forced bell curve is the shittiest idea one could come up with. Managers are forced to throw people under the bus even if they haven't underperformed. The more ridiculous part is that there's no transparency. You don't know who exceeds expectations (if anyone does) so you can follow their examples. Pure carrot and stick.

What was the controversy? That's a natural outcome of stack ranking. Sucks, doesn't it.
Also not helping your colleagues because they are the competition.
Also only working toward short term gains since any longterm investments wont help with that yearly review.
