Had an on-site with a well known Bay Area company on 11/22, and recruiter was in regular contact during this time. Interviews went great, they all liked me, and they were already talking like I had the job.
He said to check with him the following week, as he should have feedback by then. I did. He then said "I'll need another week to get feedback and a decision."
I waited a week and wrote him again. No answer. The next day, I called him. No answer. Called him from a different number. No answer. Emailed him again, saying to please just give me an update, even if he doesn't have a decision yet. No answer.
Mind you, this is a company that prides itself on having a smooth, pleasant HR experience for candidates (and up until now, it was).
I'm done. Realllly wanted this job, but I'm done trying. If he calls me Monday, great. If not, I'll keep applying elsewhere. Waiting this long (3 weeks) has deflated almost all my excitement.
It's so incredibly unprofessional and inconsiderate to do this to candidates. We put a ton of effort and heart into these interviews, and they can't give the courtesy of an update, even if it's to say there's no update yet. I'd honestly rather get rejected than be ghosted.
It comes after a year of going through similar experiences with other companies. Aced a Splunk interview and he even told me he'd bring me on site, and then ONE MONTH later he changed his mind. FB waited two weeks, and only after I kept inquiring, to say No after two video calls.
I don't ghost recruiters, and it's far worse when they do it to us. What a complete lack of consideration it shows potential employees whose lives are very much tied to new opportunities and the work that goes into interviewing for them.

I'm obviously not salty at all.
Don’t protect evil!
Actually in the case of Splunk, there was definitely an emergency with the recruiter that was explainable. Doubt so this time. And if people are busy with the holidays, that's fine, he can at least tell me so because I gave him multiple opportunities to do so.
You should prepare for the worst but hope for the best. The recruiter could have had an emergency that they’re dealing with and with the holidays etc, I can see why dates would slide. You should continue exploring opportunities until you have an offer in hand.
