Friends at G and FB just made E7 and L7 respectively and both said that they were privately informed that their promotions depended on extensive review of their private data held by the company; searches, private messages, personal emails, likes, follows, purchases, etc. As one said “They basically said they wanted to make sure that they weren’t promoting some well hidden racist or extremist by accident, so if theres anything unsavory in your personal life it’s really best for us to not put you up for promotion”. One said the search was perfomed by an automated blackboxed system that basically looked for keywords, and the other was done by a team of people. Any truth to this, and do any other companies do this? (I can see it not being done for lower level people but for L7 I think it’s plausible.) #career #promotion
Plausible. I’d recommend using your phone or a tablet to work and using a personal data connection for personal online browsing and communication at work. TOS of personal Gmail should prevent them from using that information. Not sure about FB, since I’m not sure if employees get a business FB account that is distinguished from their personal.
lol no
Lol..
Haha. Good try
For everyone saying no / lol, realize the CEO’s of these companies nearly all employ GdB for personal security and vet tons of people that they interact with in their personal lives. I wouldn’t say it’s a huge stretch to think that they’d employ some lesser degree of screening for mid/high exec ranks.
Not in tech!
So you think company profiling its own customers won’t profile its associates? They are even selling that data.
No, this is utter BS and OP knows it
Crazy .. blind is for bored tech workers ..
