From Europe to Seattle

I joined Amazon 2 years ago and I am currently based in Europe (not UK). Lifestyle here is chill and I have my wife, family, and friends. I am considering moving to Seattle with my wife but I am afraid that we will get bored. I would like to hear from EU citizen who relocated to Seattle, how is it going ? Do you want to come back or do you plan to stay? Is the lifestyle and culture difference okay? I can save 3k euros everymonth and my shares doubled in 2 years. How much are you able to save ?

Your TC will double in US. More high paying opportunities even outside Amazon once you are here. Also, since you are from EU you will get your greencard within a year. If you are worried about getting bored, you can always ask Amazon to move you to NYC 🗽 LA SF.

Don't do it. Life in the US is not as chill as in Europe. You wont have WLB. Stay there in Europe. Which city are you in?

I would stay in the same team which has a very good WLB. I do no wish to disclose the city as we have few developers here.

My ex bf left me because he couldn't stand US. Phenomenal software engineer, open source contributor etc. Bay area and Seattle were too much for him. He hated the rat race, materialistic culture, superficiality. After visiting his hometown I realize why. If you are anything like him, you are in a much better place where you are. If I didn't have all this doctorate level education and brainwashed by this goal to make half a million before 35, I would not stay here after what I experienced in Europe as well.

Doctorate education brainwashs people to earn millions? I'm confused.

No. All of the above are symptoms of the career rat race highly prevelant in US. Once someone comes here contentment becomes a dream.. Just look at the TC threads on Blind. Even the relationship threads are mostly about TC.

I lived in Europe, not disclosing location to protect indentity. I go back and my EU friends come here for business. You could live in Seattle proper for 18 - 24 months and have lots to do if you don't stay home drilling games like tons of Blind users clearly do. You didn't say where you live. Based on my worldly travels, Seattle has the most expensive food, we also have toxic food, over sugared food, and a lack of food choices compared to the EU. You should also look up comps for flat/townhouse rental. A Seattle suburb isn't an option - they are basically dead.
