I really dont understand this. There are CS students who graduate from ucsd, UC Berkeley , uiuc and go to San Jose State for a masters degree for a software engineer major. Why the f would you do that ? No, these people do not have visa issues

What’s wrong with going to SJSU after getting bachelor’s at Berkeley, UCSD, etc?

SJSU is a solid engineering school. At Google, we have more engineers from SJSU than my alma mater (an Ivy League school).

You’d be surprise how many PhD from top schools don’t know how to write code. Eg those work on theoretical. So top school means nothing.

I raised this issue with the SDE interns programs. They showed me the interview notes for a live coding session. There is literally no way in hell it was the same guy - the guy who did the interview could solve leetcode medium-ish problems live with ease in Java. The guy who showed up for the internship definitely could not. I know leetcode isn't real coding, but you can't have memorized hundreds of leetcode problems and truly not be able to code at all unless you just have a bizarre eidetic memory. My guess is this dude had somebody else sub in for him to do the interview and get the internship or otherwise cheated in some way.

To learn??? Believe it or not a BS from Berkeley doesn’t mean you know everything - people might even be able to learn something new from a professor at *gasp* SJSU

Because they didnt have an application strong enough to get into the masters program at those top 10 schools. So state school in the bay area is the next best thing and try to get some internship experience along the way.

And there’s nothing wrong with failing to get into a top 10 Master’s program.

“May be they like being with Indian aunties at sjsu? 😂🤣”

Wow, dude. I’m white and even I am offended by the blatant racism + sexism in your sentence.

I am almost 100% sure you are an Indian male.

UC Berkeley has a high bar for CS grad degrees, their own undergrads are not guaranteed admissions.

When you already have one “prestigious” school on your resume, you are free to pursue subsequent education elsewhere for the sake of knowledge. And you’re smart enough to understand that the quality of education is the same everywhere. Its the quality of peers that varies - that’s unimportant so long as you’re a self-motivated person

Case in point: “the ex google tech lead” from youtube is a Berkeley undergrad, UCSD masters. He said he made the decision bc there are too many homeless people in Cal libraries. This seems outrageous to people who put top schools on a pedestal, but not to the insiders

Many students attend community colleges before transferring to UCs. So maybe 2 years @ UC didn’t help them much? And perhaps their credentials were not good enough to get into UC’s masters program (which prolly is true or they wouldn’t have attended community colleges).

Could be because Federal Pell grants often cover the entire cost of community colleges and many parents don't want to nor can afford to pay $1200 a credit for Jimmy to take French and Film Appreciation 🤣

Lol. Aren’t public schools less expensive? My friends who went to cal, said most of the students who opt for community colleges are the ones who couldn’t get in, after high school. Of course for some people money would be an issue.
