How to get out of golden handcuffs?

Oct 2, 2020 22 Comments

I have multiple offers, but none of the other companies- tier 1 and 2- have as good benefits as Facebook.
I don’t hav much life left at fb, and i am pretty sure I wouldn’t grow after at most an year, so switching is good, but i can still drag myself here for another year.
Its so hrd to get lut of here. Wlb sucks, stress is all time high, but the benefits are sooooo good.

Help me, how did you justify leaving for another company, where u’ll have to prove again, be uncomfortable, and have lesser benefits- i will definitely go for a higher tc, but the comfort part is dragging me back.

What are those awesome benefits you talk about? At Amazon we just have bananas and pips.

  • Keep interviewing, maybe better offer will come in. Sometimes you gotta take risk to get what you want, maybe a low TC offer from WLB company will become high TC who knows

Realized that I may take a TC hit for a year but would be even better off with TC (new golden handcuffs) after a year. I definitely miss how easy things were for me at the previous company since I was there for so long. I also had a much more difficult time on boarding at the new company than expected. Long term though I know if I can get half as comfortable as I was before things will be much better for me (TC, WLB and growth). Still though, a year in I’m constantly tempted to boomerang.

It’s not bad it’s just very different. It’s basically a huge application and hardware company which operates very differently than a services company. So it’s been a tough transition for me going from services oriented company to application/hardware. Unfortunately the services org of Apple operates the same way but it’s slowly trying to move to be service orientated.
