I am joining Google soon and the recruiter says that I have to relocate before my start date.
I heard RTO was postponed indefinitely, so I don’t see the point of having to relocate before my start date. I would rather not move across the country and rent an apartment in the Bay Area. Any Googlers know if this policy is about to change given the new Omicron variant?
Any tips on what I can do? I am currently located in NYC.
Currently I am PA matched so I don’t know my manager just yet. I will be starting team matching 4-6 weeks before the start date. (This is for the new grad pipeline)

My manager encouraged to at least visit once or twice during a team meet, but new Covid seems to have everyone backing up for now.
Also, you can apply to be remote indefinitely, there’s a link somewhere internally. Not sure if being too junior a Googler disqualifies you from this nor if they’ll actually apply a pay cut that’s dependent on where you choose to be based in instead
I'm filling out my relocation needs assessment - for now I've just set my move date a month after my start date (4/1), and noted in the bottom "subject to change based on RTO policy". we'll see what they come back to me with.
