Hi Blind community,

In a pickle here and really need your advice...
YOE: 7 (Dell i9)
Base: 170k
Total comp: 210k (my RSU is running out next year so will drop)
Role: Marketing

I've been looking to switch companies as I've been with Dell for 7 years now. However I realized I'm lucky and am at a higher pay band than a lot of my peers. I just have an interview with Meta and the recruiter is concerned that Meta is very strict on YOE tying to base pay, so they're likely only going to offer 150k base. I've always wanted to work at either Meta or Google so it is a dream come true and honestly I'm burned out at my current role and needing a change.

Any advice here? I understand if TC is comparable then it should be fine, but I'm worried if I do move forward it might hurt my future pay.

Thank you!

Going from Dell to Meta will not hurt your future pay especially if the Meta TC is close to Dell. This will have quite the opposite impact than you think as Meta employees are considerably more sought after than Dell.

Most likely Meta TC will be higher as well.

That's what I'm leaning towards too. TC is the same but essentially meta offer would be lower base pay but more equity, and my Dell TC is the opposite. But it'll be good for my future moves I suppose and get my foot in the door. Thanks!

If TC is the same, it’s a no-brainer.

  • Where are you based? Meta is strict on leveling, which is not just based on YOE. It's based on the role you're interviewing for, and there should be a little wiggle room for negotiation. If you're in Bay Area, do not accept anything less than a 15% increase in TC.
