Just got really high and re-read ‘America’ by Allen Ginsberg . How did the city of beat poets , counter-culture and anarchist progressive views that set today’s viewpoints go from that to douchebags on blind bragging about their salaries and the city being the Mecca of mindless capitalism ? Strawman . Just because I work somewhere ( no longer do) does not necessarily mean I cannot put forward a viewpoint or argument. In 1984 Winston and Julia worked for the system but still hated and rebelled against it .
This person is high but is true. The new culture in the Bay area is a disease that needs to be erased. If you don't understand what this means, read "Ruined by design" by Mike Monteiro. Is a great book from someone that was in tech before all of us.
It’s not impressive to rant about how everyone and everything sucks. Rants are cheap ways to raise your status by knocking everyone else down. Make something that’s undeniably better and you’ve got my attention.
I accept that this is a rant but I am not trying to put anyone down . I just lament the fact that we got here . I am putting forth an argument so we can discuss about and come to a solution together on how to defeat our burning man going tech overlords . All I get is snark, sarcasm and dismissal.

Op, have you considered that there might be two kinds of people. The blind TC folks and people who truly do change the world. There's tesla, audible, YouTube, fintech, Amazon, AR, phones, etc. Your assumption that tech is just ads is wrong.
The companies that you posted have ad revenues except for Tesla which was created thanks to government investment (tax money, people taking the risk and the company taking the profit). I kind of agree with you but your comment just gives the reason to OP.

And I agree that there are people who are doing some really awesome stuff at those companies . What I lament is that the culture of inquisition and having fun has been replaced by TC bragging and a hustle mentality . Also @fk specism mentions - the main revenue still comes from ads .

I am not sure if fat incels read Ginsberg at all. These are times of great political instability and injustice and just because I bring that up on a tech forum - I am labeled a fat incel. I am angry at this greed and loss of any convictions that gave rise to Trump in the first place. I am married and play ultimate frisbee twice a week.
