Never "publicly" told this story but here goes. I was a few months out of school in my first job when my manager started doing little things that were making me uncomfortable. They sat too close or insisted that I go to a social event with the team and then corner me away from everyone else to talk. This escalated gradually over the next few months until they started calling me at night after work. I was on a pretty brutal on call rotation so getting calls or pages late at night was not unusual. I had to answer. After the first call I realized they are calling me to talk and not for work, but what could I do in that situation? I had to answer. On top of this, I was frequently on the work laptop late at night trying to get ahead and would get messages from them. Over time, these started to become more and more explicit. The phone calls started coming when they were drunk and became my boss trying to get me to talk dirty to them. After a work event, I stayed too late and they kept buying drinks for me. Drinking with my team seemed safe, but they all left without me seeing. My boss leaned in to kiss me and before I knew it they were too close. I came to my senses and reeled. I reminded them that we we both engaged and I ran out of the bar. I confided in a co-worker that night but was too scared to do anything about it. After I calmed down the next day I turned on logging on the work chat system to record the late night chats they would send me. I started asking questions intended to get more direct messages from them on intent, e.g. are you ok having sex with your engaged employee when you're engaged? (Answer: yes) I endured another couple months of these late night calls waking me up at 2 or 3 in the morning and finally decided to report them. I emailed my skip level manager and showed the evidence to them and watched their eyes open wide in horror. I met with HR the next day and retold the same story. After about 5 months of constant torture, they fired the bitch. I hope she rots in hell. I'm a straight, white male. It happens to us too.
Who is they? This post is so confusing
They? It happens to both. Glad she was fired or they were fired?
She was fired. I was not. I left of my own accord after that.
“I started asking questions intended to get more direct messages from them on intent, e.g. are you ok having sex with your engaged employee when you're engaged? (Answer: yes)” And you were surprised when they continued to think you might be interested in that?
+1
@OP sorry you’re getting so much flack on this post. Its not cool.
The use of "they" is for effect. I wanted to share my experience in a more impactful way. I suspect most people will think it's a woman writing until they see the last couple lines. Hopefully that makes it stick more.
@fs92, makes sense, I considered that possibility too. That was impactful use of gender neutral pronouns. ;-)
Was she/they/your woman boss hot?
Man... I thought it was a girl until he said he worked late nights. Nice but and switch.
What’s that supposed to mean? Women can work late nights..
Being a good looking dude is an open invitation for unasked for compliments at work. This happened to me job after job in my 20’s. I’m kinda glad I gained dad bod weight and am balding as it’s finally stopped.
I can second that. I've had girls very directly tell me I'm handsome and the best looking guy in the office and when I was leaving once was told, "what about all the crushes girls have on you here?" These were all very unfuckingcomfortable situations where you just don't know how to react. Taking nothing away from women and what they go through but TRUST ME there are ENOUGH horny women jumping on men as well. I have literally been almost raped in University once and had to fight her off. It happens.
Found the asshole! Thanks for identifying yourself.
