Future of semiconductor design and verification?
Trying get a feel from other HW engineers about future of semicon ... Do you think automation can kill frontend HW jobs ( ASIC design, design verification) How long would the industry need application specific hardware? Would software take over ? Would we reach a point where hardware design can be automated with software intent definition ?
Has digital design synthesis/automation lead to the elimination of digital design and physical design jobs? No. Has it reduced the number? Most likely. We had many more chip designs though due to reduced cost of design, so maybe in aggregate number of design jobs didn't decrease as much.
No. Though work will be divided and some will move to low cost area. So the flow will adapt to that. As long as timeline is met and quality is maintained. Otherwise we may see similar case with Boeing in HW.
