Hi guys
Background:
I plan to leave USA and go back to my home country. I have individual stock account, 401k account in Fidelity and they said I can only keep my 401k account open with Fidelity. So I need to consider moving my individual stock account to other brokers such as Schwab.
Question:
If I open NRA account at Schwab or IBKR, can I directly transfer all of my stocks from RA account to NRA account? Will I need to pay tax for the gains in the NRA account?
Suppose I have 1 share of google in my current RA account, then I leave the country and open a NRA account, then I transfer the stock to NRA account and sell it, will I be taxed for the gain of this 1 share of google? Will they withhold any tax? Will I receive any tax form?
Isn’t it too good to be true if I could transfer the existing stocks to NRA account and sell without paying tax?
Really appreciate for any information!
