Minimum income to live comfortably in NYC?

Seeking tips from parents who established in NYC with a young family.
Hubby and I both in tech, household TC is 400-500k and we moved to NYC (US) for the first time. We are expecting a baby and I have no benchmark on how much a household costs if planning for next 3-5 years here. I also plan to quit for a year and we are on a visa so I see risk in change in total expected income and thus budgeting n all becomes hard. We donโt have a lavish lifestyle and our fall bank option is Europe.
Looking for tips on how to manage this transition as we love NYC.
tc 400-500k
Edits: 200-250k if I quit for a year

Rest savings or whatever else you spend on that is more variable
