Edit: went with Asana. Got my pitcher ready to drink the koolaid. Thanks everyone who chimed in!

Hey Blind!

I can't make my own life decisions, so turning to you netizens to make them for me. Please let me know why you think one way or the other in comments :)

Been working in product/fullstack engineering at Amazon (recommerce) and wanted some change.

Asana team will be LunaDb Infra. Google team will be Web Solutions (search index optimization). Both seem like interesting/backendy work and provide a welcome diversification in my work experience, especially at this point in my career.

Other points
* Culture + WLB across Asana seem great. Can't quite tell about the google team.
* Commute for Asana will be SF->SF, Commute for google will be SF->SV. Both teams are 3/2 for RTO
* I would say my priorties are WLB, Career Growth, TC in that order.

Asana L4 Offer TC: 330k
Google L4 Offer TC: 313k + 30k sign on
Current Amazon TC: 215k

YoE: 2 in SWE. 6 in MechE (probably doesnt matter)

Damn. Look at those reviews for Asana. It’s like near-unanimously 5 stars. I would go with Asana since there’s stronger confidence in the work life balance from Blind/glassdoor. Less clear for Google Web Solutions.

Take Google, go for L5 or hop to L5 in 2 years and you’ll be at 450k+ TC. Not as easy if you go with Asana

I was at Google for more years than I care to share (I was previously in non-tech before I switched to SWE) and I absolutely agree that the commute from SF to the South Bay will ruin any thoughts of WLB you hope to have. I even moved from the Marina to Rincon Hill in hopes of improving the commute time but it still averaged 3-4 hours per commute day (this was pre-pandemic, of course, but I have little doubt that it will creep back to this commute time again soon). If WLB is the top of your list, Asana is a no brainer.

    WLB + commute = Asana

    - that G commute down to the South Bay would ruin your life
    - you do not want to move out of SF for the South Bay, at any cost
