[Hiring process] prestige duration for take home test and onsite loop
Step 1(OA): take home test duration started with 1 hr time limit few years back and now trending to 4+ hrs.
Step 2:Onsite interview loop is 4 to 8+ hrs.
So total of almost 12+ hrs of interview time with 8 to 24 interviewers. This involve sourcer, HM,code 1, code 2, sys design, behaviour, HR, Leadership priciple, bar raiser, double bar raiser, As Is, cultural fit etc evaluations.
Step 3: Once its clear then D&I quota and team fit evaulation may drag upto a year.
Compare to technology , tech is changing faster then recruiting cycle. E.G: You had given interview for on-prem server team but joined cloud team as on-prem team already desolved due to tech landscape change.

Last interview cycle most places let me skip them. The only one who didn't was Microsoft, who gave 3 hours to do it, but it took less than 20 minutes.
But again OA is quite different than a take home project IMO. Online assessment is actually good prep for the loop
I would have failed you if you were doing a manager behavioral interview with me for poor communication skills.
