Got an interview scheduled at GE for DevOps engineer next week, was going through thelayoff.com site there are layoffs still going on. Thinking to consider if I get an offer. Anybody have some insights ? Any body from GE digital here ?
Which team is it for? Until Flannery gives his plan out to Wall Street there is some amount of anxiety in SR.
You’ll be fine. Layoffs will be on the functional side and/or duplicate roles that aren’t necessary anymore. The “technical” roles will be pretty much safe as they don’t want to get rid of the execution people for GE Digital. And if they hire you they won’t turn around and lay you off. Good luck!
I've been over at the San ramon office, they're pretty much cycling through h1b1's every week. Especially in DevOps. Imho, the devops team is overstaffed and under skilled. Most of them have no idea what the big picture is so I can see them laying off people from there pretty often. In my trips there I've seen 3 completely different staffs in as many years, for what it's worth.
I would say if you have an open position then it is approved. Planning for what happens later in the year should be already done. If there is a role open now then it is fine.
I wouldn't assume that.
If the offer is good take it. I was able to negotiate 15k more than I was making + a 10k signing. So far I enjoy it, and not really worried about it. I'm conservative with my money so even if something happens I can live long enough to find a new job, which as a tech person takes very little time.
