GE Marketing (stay away)

Leaving GE this week. Highly recommend anyone considering a marketing position to wait until reorg finalizes. I am fortunate that I left of my own accord. Put simply Marketing is not valued at the company and commercial teams are stuck in the dark ages. People hired to Ge Digital have been doing best to modernize digital marketing efforts but industrial side rules the roost. They focus only on relationship side and refuse to let marketing teams utilize digital to enhance their efforts. I spent a year trying to convince teams of Digital inside sales, social selling techniques, and overall inbound/outbound activities including ABM. Some sales didn’t even bother using Salesforce. Instead, we were treated like associates and asked to provide presentations and fact sheets, this is at the LPB (senior manager/Director) level. I would like to say this was limited to our group but seems that GE culture does not believe marketing should exist. Fortunately, I met a ton of extremely smart people and learned an incredible amount of knowledge about the industries. It’s just too bad, would have stayed longer if I saw a light at the end of the tunnel.

Are you saying that you used relationship selling techniques to pitch the value of digital marketing and it failed?

I was one of the folks laid off and had two keynotes last week on driving revenue with marketing (outside if GE, obviously). They're clueless. I can run circles around 99.8% of the marketers at GE, but was on a team that was cut and all the initiatives I pushed for stalled. Message me if you see any great marketing leadership roles (preferably remote). :)

GE does not understand, nor care to promote Marketing as a necessity. And if they want to sell software, marketing really matters.
