Typically pay back in full within your first year. Check your contract.
Every company I have seen that offers this usually requires payback. Sign on bonus may only require 6 months, but relo packages depending on cost can be multiple years. All for good reason.. it's a substantial investment for a company in a new employee they really don't know yet.. not really fair to jump ship in a few mos just to cash out relo package and bonus.
Yeah, for me it was in the contract I signed. I asked how much the relocation was and it was a really high amount (~20k) that they pay a 3rd party for the relo. However I think they would only enforce this if you left under very bad circumstances.
May I know if you also got stock options? (Asking for a friend. And how much was the sign in bonus)?
GE is 24 months payback for relocation & it is from the time you start to use your relo benefits....not start date. You should verify what you signed bc many people have been surprised by this.
GE relo has to be paid back in full plus the taxes GE paid on it if you leave within 24 months.
Sign one due if before 1 year. Relocation is 3 years...at least that's what my new hire packet said.
Try to negotiate it in as signing bonus to your next job offer
