GM Job Offer

I've been offered a recent graduate mechanical engineering position at General Motors in Detroit for 78k. However I'm very sceptical about moving to Michigan and I don't have any experience working in the automotive industry. How has other people's experience been working in the automotive industry and living in Michigan?#michigan #automotive #mechanicalenginnering

Who said is a good offer? TC or you know

GE MhFk72 Jan 7, 2020

That’s pretty impressive especially for GM. I knew a lot of senior engineers at GM who barely made that base.

GE MhFk72 Jan 7, 2020

Is it a 7th level position? Or 6th?

Varex Imaging hetemn Jan 7, 2020

It's actually a 5A position. It's for their TRACK program for recent grads.

GE MhFk72 Jan 8, 2020

That should be near the max for that level at GM. Congratulations!

Automotive is a great industry. And battery car, autonomous cars, AI etc are upcoming trends, which will keep automotive industry very interesting for next decade. GM is the TOP of the chain for US automotive. Very stable job as they hardly fire. WLB is awesome and unbeatable. Work will be little slow in most team but few teams will have an awesome opportunities. And your salary as per GM is on the top. Not many Sr engineers get that.

Hardly fire, tell that to the 2k it people last year...

General Motors SSF987 Jan 8, 2020

That's a good offer for a 5A position. Most likely you will be promoted with in a year. The yearly bonus is great. TRACK program is a really great way to start with GM. Make sure you end up with a good technical team after your program ends. That's what will define your career progress.

Tesla santaclz Jan 8, 2020

Brah! Go for it, they pay that to people with 3-4 yrs of exp

GE MhFk72 Jan 8, 2020

At GM, they pay that to people with 20 years of experience!

General Motors BroDown Jan 8, 2020

You work at GE.....lol that's completely untrue.

Fiat Chrysler GSOx60 Jan 8, 2020

That's a good offer, GM is a great company to get experience and training. COL in Detroit is low, and we have alot to do out here. Good luck!

Michigan is good for automotive; place is not really good. Especially weather isn't favourable - 7-9 months it's going to be cold as hell. Living costs are low compared to others.
