For those who have no clue about GM cruise, it’s a self driving company, which recently got 2.25 billion investment from softbank early this June, valued at 11.5 billion. I have been in the company for about 4 months, I can see the company’s efforts in building a company just like other unicorns, in terms of comp and benefits etc. Folks what you guys think about GM cruise? (I expected people don’t know it at all due to no product yet. Cruise folks plz don’t bias the poll. Comment if you want plz..
How much can a staff engineer get at Cruise?
I think it’s really a big range.. I know an IC4 getting about 400k, and an IC4 getting 310k, staff is IC5 and above not sure the comp range.. I think staff engineer is really high title as far as I know.
Prestige is kind of subjective OP
I think prestige is only a part. Uber might be more “prestigious” but I’ll always take amazon over Uber
I don't like Cruise and Lyft as they don't have generous stock refresher policy. Stock refreshers make up for a big % of your total comp.
Did Cruise start giving out stock refresher?? Cruise employees pls confirm
Agree refresher is good. Cruise has refresher now but it’s kinda vague in details to me
I don’t like Cruise because their cars are a menace on the road.
Why? Is it self driving cars in general or only cruise cars?
Cruise cars. They’re a constant pain in the ass in SF.
How easy is it to get IC4 offer? I heard from HR that IC5 and above is super tough. Only few ppl in the company are IC5 and above.
IC4 should not be very difficult, I know one who have a PhD + almost 3 years yoe have IC4. Agree IC5 is really rare.
Based on currently vote results. There are exactly 1/3 people don’t know the company, which is close to my expectation😂
Now at 20% not bad
Uber and Lyft respond to people's emails and contact attempts much faster than Cruise.
Not as well known by the public as Uber/Lyft due to no consumer product, hopefully that'll change next year if able to execute on rideshare.
One of my friends was an early employee of Cruise, and he is now worth millions. So yeah, they did well. Not sure what it's like if you join at this point, but I would take them over Uber and Lyft. They are focusing on a very specific market: software for autonomous vehicles. And since they are a wholly owned subsidiary of GM (Marry Barra has been an amazing CEO), they have access to the institutional support of a major auto company and its market reach and customer base. Uber and Lyft (especially the former) are trying to do too much and burning through cash to capture market share of an industry that has low barriers to entry.
They're not wholly owned by GM anymore. SoftBank bought 19%.
I think Uber did what they should do. The other business is to keep up its growth as its scale of ride-sharing already in cities that it can expand(growth will mostly comes from penetration)

Should I interview if for same level if already reached terminal level?
Cruise is my dream company damn. Or at least it was before y’all went back to equity instead of cash RSU values.
You prefer GM stock instead of cruise pre-ipo stock? Colleagues I knew, most of them prefer cruise RSU..
Wow I’d rather have liquidity
