Internal job change while awaiting promotion
L62 (PM 2) in MSFT with 8 Yoe finally getting bumped to 63 (Senior PM) in this cycle. Got a new manager who’s been a great advocate in the short time the person’s been with me. Rest of the org also knows me well due to the time I’ve spent within the org...
Now, I’m looking to move to a new role (L63) in a new org (different CVP) with faster expected growth and more interesting challenge...Have a couple of questions here -
1. What would be the right time to bring up the conversation around me looking to move? Especially if I’m getting looped for interviews and one of the interviewers checks with people in my org?
I feel like I should be the one to say this to my boss.
Also - tips on broaching this topic - since I feel like the org wants to invest in me and I am moving out...
2. Will there be an impact to my promotion, heard its still to be ‘locked’ (happens in July) but entered in the tool...
