I have an offer from GS (Goldman Sachs), NYC and just been informed about an offer in the works at MS Azure (Redmond). If I take MS offer I'll have to relocate to Redmond. GS: Core Engineering (VP) 196k + 45k (for the remaining 5 months this year) [Next year's bonus would be decided based on annual review; But I am told it would be significantly high to potentially get me above 300k+ TC]. Also being told, there is a lot of opportunities to grow, as this is a brand new initiative @ GS. MS: Sr Software Engineer. Yet to know the numbers. What would be a reasonable TC to expect? Is it worth to relocate to Redmond for this opp.? YOE: 20
Microsoft TC would be misleading as the stock you get when you join will run out in 4 years and your TC will drop significantly. That said, for the first 4 yrs, your TC can be competitive with GS depending on your level and what you manage to negotiate. Redmond also has lower CoL than NYC.
Thanks!
MS: Significantly lower col in Redmond. MS has opportunity for impact across the entire industry. MS is a tech company with lots of interesting projects outside of Azure. You can dress like schleprock. Downside is you’ll be on call for Azure teams. GS: nyc is fun. Maybe some cutting edge work? Downside is you’re working for a bank.
Thanks!
MS. You will be part of FAANG and tech has better pay and prestige and finance. If L63 can do $250k. If L64 can do $300k. Btw Redmond has no state tax. WA $250k >> NY $300k. Wlb is better. Also you mentioned GS $300k is with very high good performance. Add $30-50k TC at MSFT for very high good performance.
Thanks!
I have an offer from Goldman Sachs, New Jersey. 3YOE in tech. The offer is 140k(Base) + 50k(Bonus). Now, if I join in August, will I get full 50k bonus for this year ? or it will be pro rated (50k*(5/12)) ? I am very confused. Recruiter said it is not pro rated, but I doubt it. Did you recruiter tell you anything like, this 45k is pro rated ?
If your recruiter said it’s not pro rated, then you get 50k before tax, at the review time in Jan/Feb 2019. They wouldn’t put that on the paper though. You can always call them again and get this clarified. They are there to get you on board.
GS?
