Flagging irrelevant posts

Jul 26, 2016 7 Comments

I love this app, and it has answered tons of my questions about the tech industry, but there are way too many posts where people use it as a platform for politics instead of tech topics. It's not Twitter/FB. Let's keep topics relevant and answer each other's questions.

Thanks (I'm not offended if you disagree)

You do not get to decide what people wants to talk about. There is NO mandate to talk about business in Blind. The audience of your posts is tech professionals - but that does not constrain you in ANY way. You can use this forum from whatever the fuck strikes your fancy. If you aren't interested in a post, DON'T READ IT but don't spoil the fun for the people who are interested.

I've said this on an earlier post about this very topic, but as non-tech person in this community (art director) if posts were limited to topics like coding and SDE salaries, I would have been long gone. Just because a post isn't relevant to you doesn't mean it isn't relevant to the larger group. And flagging it only for that reason is pretty narcissistic.

In general, anonymity brings out the worst in people. This is actually a pretty honest group with the occasional weirdo.

In regards to "relevance" I agree with @GorU66. The truth is, I've tried to build a social app in the past and seriously it's chicken and the egg. You can't make something relevant for everyone unless you have content after content. Then you need users. It's so hard to win so you find your niche (good job Blind) but within the niche you have more niches and just not enough content contributors and too many consumers. It's a constant struggle.

I agree. But guidelines for what is considered relevant and not is gray and will always be unless Blind changes something
