Hi all, Have some novice questions: 1. Can I do full time job during pre opt? 2. I expect that there is a gap between my pre-opt and post-opt for like one month. I understand that I cannot work during this gap, but would that be okay or legal to stay with the company without working capability? OPT: optional practical training. Thanks! TC: 240k. YoE: 1
Isnt pre-OPT called CPT ? If not what’s the diff. On CPT u can work 40hr/week aka fulltime.
No they are different. But yes functionally they are the same. In some schools, if you are in your last semester, you cannot get CPT. Instead, you have to apply for pre-OPT
I had 2 weeks gap between my pre-OPT and H1b authorizations and simply took unpaid leave of absence. Since then, I had h1b transfer and received GC without any issues.
Thanks for your info!
I am really assuming that you are talking about a surgery?? (Opt? or post-op; OP for operation) Anyway, there is a short term disability clause in most contracts. If you know that you absolutely will not be able to work, disclose that to your manager earlier than later. That way, they can resource and also help you get the ball rolling on short term disability. With a year under your belt, you should be fine for something like this (or you'd need a manager who respects your health)
Hi, sorry for the confusion. I am talking about optional practical training.
What is that?
