General MBA Vs Specialized MBA

Is it better to do an MBA in Marketing or an MBA in General Management? I am early in my career and I want to get higher positions in the marketing field (I have a bachelor's degree in marketing). I have decided to do an executive MBA. However, I do not know if specialized MBAs have the same prestige/reputation as general MBAs. Do they have the same reputation? When job descriptions ask for an MBA are they referring to only general MBAs? Please advise me. Thank you!

I would say go general management. Some of these specialized programs leave you half way between management and specialization. What I'm trying to say is that some companies would not even consider you as an Analytics person nor Management.

It really doesn’t matter, no one ever asks what your ‘major’ was in an MBA program.

It depends on the school a lot more. Which one is yours?

University of Sheffield (QS global university ranking #78 and Times Higher Education global university ranking #117) I don't have the money to get to another school at this time. I have a partial scholarship from the university and I live close by. It's an executive mba so I will be able to work simultaneously. What do you think? Thank you!

I’d highly recommend against it: emba from no name school is damaging rather than bringing value. Takes time. Classmates are not that smart, 0 help for your career and no advantage by adding it to your resume. None. Focus on getting a better job and if you decide to do mba in a few years from Berkeley or Stern it will be a much better call. How many yoe?
