Get rid of angry drivers

I was walking along Townsend Street in SF in the early evening. I saw a guy yelling profanities out of his window at a driver in front of him who he deemed to be driving too slowly. I also saw a car slow down and pull into a white curb zone (legal for passenger loading). Instead of simply passing, the driver behind this car honked. Cities have enough noise as is, and we do not need noisy aggressive behavior from ill tempered drivers. It’s not like people will drive any faster, or decide not to pull over, if you yell or honk at them. I propose a test for emotional stability at the DMV. In addition, usage of the horn or yelling for any reason other than safety should incur points on one’s license. Many people will fail the test or get their license suspended which is good as it results in less congested and more temperate streets.

“I don’t like something so the government should regulate it.”

Facebook ICfireball OP Feb 18, 2020

The government already regulates who can and cannot drive. I am simply tightening the parameters

Poor thing

Yes I agree. We should also revoke the drivers license of all Facebook employees.

Facebook ICfireball OP Feb 18, 2020

And your rationale for that would be?

Let me summarize what you said. You are upset with SF not reaching your expectations. You want the city of SF to set aside all its priorities and work on a stupid emotional test that doesn’t provide shelter to homeless, reduce traffic congestion, fix drug problem or solve the city’s need for a poop patrol. Is charging people points on their DL for honking your answer to emotional stability?

Facebook ICfireball OP Feb 18, 2020

The homeless/drug problem is essentially unsolvable. Petty car-related issues are easy to implement and solve with practical outcomes. This is why you can see SFMTA handing out parking tickets in the city right next to a heroin addict shooting up right beside that expired meter. But I didn’t say anything about priorities.

OP is what’s wrong with CA politics

Nielsen nqED75 Feb 18, 2020

I would sooner regulate the slow inconsiderate drivers. Those fuckers who leave 5 cars between them and the person in front, so that only 2 cars get through the traffic light vs 4 or 5.

Drive better and at least pretend you have places to go or get off the road

Facebook ICfireball OP Feb 18, 2020

So we are in agreement about getting off the road, the only question is which party should do the honor.

Facebook public2 Feb 18, 2020

The party that is poor at driving and this the recipient of yelling. People don't yell just for fun

Go ride a moped in Saigon for a week and come back and tell us about how hectic SF driving is. 😂

Google ejto35 Feb 18, 2020

If you don't like traffic noises don't live in a city...?

Did you just earn a point on your DL?

Facebook ICfireball OP Feb 18, 2020

Did I say I live there? I don’t.

I honk liberally. I do it when other drivers do stupid things. Most of the time it is because the other driver is not making their intentions known. So yes, they might be pulling over to a passenger zone, but doing so without using their lights, which leaves me and other drivers guessing as to what they're going to do. It's unsafe, and they deserve a honking. Not to shame them (although shame is part of it), but so they learn not to do it again. I sometimes yell too, but I try to keep it constructive, like "use your lights you asshole," rather than simply "you asshole." I will also get up on your ass if you're driving slowly on the left lane. If you're driving slowly on the right lane, that's ok. Hopefully that shines a light as to why people honk and yell. We're not "emotionally unstable."

Facebook ICfireball OP Feb 19, 2020

See, I had faith that people aren’t raging assholes who think they are conclusively right and try to impose self-granted authority on others, to abuse logic and conflate nuisance behavior (slowness) with unsafe behavior. Not to mention the utter hypocrisy of “getting up on” someone’s tail (i.e. tailgating) while preaching shit about safety. Too bad!

Stripe boolsac Feb 19, 2020

Well, we can discuss the slowness vs the lack of intention signaling separately. I do agree that slowness is not inherently unsafe (unless on freeway), but annoying as fuck. And yes, tailgating is not safe either, so use judiciously. But not signaling what you intend to do is unsafe and does not require me to have "self-granted authority" to call it out. Especially when on a bike, motherfuckers turning right randomly without signaling and without looking have caused me enough near-accident experiences that I'm comfortable cussing the behavior our when I see it. Or do you not agree that said behavior is unsafe? If you do, then what do you suggest doing instead? If I could send them a text message, I would, but communication options are limited when we're on different vehicles.

I suspect you are the one often being honked at.
