Ebay's policy is to adjust the base salary according to location. My base salary will go from 176K to 146K, bonus % and RSU don't change. With Austin's living expenses, is 17% a reasonable pay cut?

Current TC (Bay Area): 210K
yoe: 4

Edit: just corrected - it's closer to 17% pay cut

Prices are different in the burbs than Austin proper, but even then you’re looking at 550k+ in Cedar Park and Leander for 2000ish sf.

That said, pretty sure you can’t get anything in the Bay Area anything close to that price for that kind of proximity to the city.

Austin is landlocked/flat terrain sewer in the middle of Texas. Not sure why people have fawned over it so much

Don’t forget the dwindling water supplies. Drought + too many people using water = terrible.

Most of the people moving back from Californias were not originally from California. It’s just trash moving back to their trash home

2 yrs ago that would have made sense. Now, Austin's real estate is really very hot. You do save on state taxes.

It’s still a better deal. A $700K house (a nice home) at 3% in Austin equals a total tax burden of $21k. For OP’s salary the California state tax is $10,200, for a $1 million single family home in SF that’s $11800 in property taxes so $22K for the right to live there in a 1 million spot in the bay (not sure that buys much.) That’s excluding a few hundred extra in sales tax every year, tolls, gasoline, food etc. realistically, for OP’s income and above it makes no financial sense to stay in the Bay Area. Obviously it’s a great place, but strictly financially speaking, Texas high property taxes are more than covered when you look at the whole picture for most people.

Property tax in California is irrelevant. Op won't be a homeowner in Bay Area with that TC either way. :D

No. Austin is expensive. $2k for a decent studio in the city is not uncommon. You could live farther out and commute and maybe save.

    That's like a 10% raise

It doesn't matter how many people support it. Supporting slavery in any form is repugnant, and there is no other way to view the so called "pro-life" movement. One has to be completely morally bankrupt to support the subjugation of women.

What an incredibly stupid comment - you should be embarrassed that you even wrote that.

Your analogy doesn’t even make sense - how many slaves supported slavery? That would be a more apt analogy for the idiotic comparison you’re making.

Clearly 1 out of every 2 women that you claim are being “subjugated” don’t agree with you, yet you insist on inventing a fake victim so can act morally righteous.

Abortion is one of the most vile, twisted, and quite frankly, evil practices around, and when the entire argument hinges around de-humanization, mental gymnastics, and euphemisms, you know you’re supporting a disgusting act.

One has to be morally bankrupt to support murder on the most innocent of lives. You should be embarrassed.
