Being on an O-1, if I find myself fired, am I under the same 60 day time limit to find a new employer? Would I need to leave the country and come back in with a new visa?
Googling gives me conflicting answers, so I'm turning to blind

If, of course, your O-1 visa is legit.
OP: You’d have to find a new job in the same “research” field, submit a new petition, get it approved. All of this within 60 days. Atleast you should probably have submitted the petition to USCIS. Depending on the approval, you may start work or get stamping before starting the work (which you already know).
You cannot be unemployed on O-1 and must be paid by current employer (as per my immigration attorneys at the time). I guess there is a 60 day grace period.
O-1 is tied to employer and new employer must file a new O-1 application. Your attorneys can use the same information and references for new O-1. Make sure to get everything in premium processing.
FYI original O-1 is issued for 3 yrs and then can be renewed in 1 year increments indefinitely. This is applicable to all new employers. Getting GC after O-1 is relatively easy :)
I had 800 citations by the time of application. Texas Service Center.
