Getting into Mckinsey with GPA sub 2,5?

Nov 22, 2019 13 Comments

Is that possible to break into Mckinsey with low gpa as sub 2,5?

Interested in general track of consulting. Have like 3 years of work experience in huge multinational companies.

Thanks!

It'll be difficult, OP. McK values people who look good on paper. That's how they sell you to their clients and justify their bill rates.

It’s all about how many names you throw down and how much prestige you ooze.. 2.5 from Harvard you could get in, 2.5 from bullshit name school won’t work

Thanks for reply! Not Harvard, but top 3 in my country.
Do you think can experience push my GPA far behind?

Depends entirely on who they are

If you have a strong/serious connection to McKinsey, and you go to the Harvard of your country with a difficult and rigorous major, then it'll be very difficult to get in. If any of these do not apply, I would say it is probably impossible.
That being said, like many other places, if you can get an interview, then you just have to blow them away during interviewing and you can get a job like anyone else. It's mostly a matter of getting an interview in the first place

I don't understand your comment, but I just meant that if he manages to get an interview, in theory he has as much of a chance as anyone else. Again though, getting the interview is the hard part if his GPA is 2.5 (or even lower)

Have you ever meet someone with such low undegrad GPA at Mckinsey?
And what will be your best advice for me to get there?

I would say semi impossible. Recruiter once told me there is a cut off at 3.6 or 3.7. Unless you are coming in as an expert (10+ yoe)
