How to get interviewed at Netflix? While GOOG and FB invite pretty much everyone, N seems to be very selective. A few years ago I managed to fail (!) initial phone screen with a recruiter girl. I tried applying again later, but no one responded. Also - is it possible to work there as SWE and not get involved with the Java stack? If not C or C++ I can do Golang - I hear they use it.
i use chrome but i can see people using safari too. there’s more than one way in
Maybe the problem is you use terms like “recruiter girl.”
Can’t you just refer to her as the recruiter? When you call her a girl, your implying she’s a not a grown adult. She’s a woman, not a girl.
Fuck, this is what he meant :( I didn't mean any disrespect. I guess I'm showing my age - kind of assumed any woman would take it as a compliment to be called a girl. But no, this could't be the reason - I didn't address her as "hey girl", or smth. May be I struggled with a - very stupid - question of "why you want to work for us". I thought being geographically close is good enough reason. Which is, for any reasonable person. But some people told me afterwards that I should have came up with some kind of bullshit about "changing the would", or something.
I am glad filters are working. Learning to receive feedback the probably the most important quality we look for in candidates this and... not being a jerk. You fail in both counts.
People underestimate how tough it is to get a job there. For non-tech roles, Netflix is tougher than Google, Facebook, Dropbox.
As to the Java question: yes, there are other languages used on the server side. Depending on the team, it would be possible to work primarily in e.g. Go, but it would behoove you to be able to understand the Java parts and be willing to dip into them as well.
At Netflix it really depends on culture fit, relevant tech experience, as well as what the team is looking for.
Based on what I’ve read here, you’re not a culture fit. Your skills will not even come into consideration without it. Read the culture deck. We don’t hire brilliant jerks. You may attest to your brilliance but the way you communicate attests to you being a jerk.
I don't see him being jerkish, at least not in the OP. The talent screens are Netflix are different from other companies though. Even without him being a jerk, they touch on various elements of the culture deck which may have excluded him.
I agree about the first post but through the rest of his communications he degraded in my eyes. This may have been a pattern the “recruiter girl” (ugh) notes and deems him not a fit. That being said, the response of wanting to work at Netflix was due to location would have been enough of a concern to knock him out, at least from me as an HM.
Wow, some people are really quick with conclusions here - like calling someone a jerk. How can one take "a girl" as a sign of disrespect, or as a sign of me considering her professional role not important? I guess it tells something about you. But I agree I am probably not a good fit there - looks like N culture is bullshit - at least, judging by some people here.
Guess it depends on your role and their openings. I had the opposite experience of being recruited for a couple teams over and over again over the years, but not interested. Then wound up at FB for a role that’s better suited to me
GOOG and FB keep inviting me for interviews every 1.5 years, but I keep failing these interviews. N - I cannot even get an interview there. Seems odd.
