Getting more raise after L5 promo (Google)
I've just got promoted to L5. I got a raise of 17% (152K->178K, CHF), stock refresh is not disclosed yet.
I told my manager that I'm aware that I was underpaid and underlevelled as an L4 and I don't want to be underpaid as an L5 too (178K is basically the lowest end of L5 in 2021), so I'm asking for some additional raise to be marginally closer to the L5 median salary and a minimum of 100K USD stock refresh. I base this request on go/paycomparison and the salaries of new hire L5s. Basically if I was hired today, I'd likely earn significantly more.
Of course I got the whole arsenal of bullshit, like money not being everything, a 17% raise being already great (yeah, the low end of L5 was so far from my L4 base that I needed a 17% raise to match), and Google doing a good job in fairly compensating everyone. I politely explained my manager that I'm aware of the market, and I insist on getting my comp reconsidered.
What can I expect at this point?
I don't have a competing offer yet, but I'm being considered at Facebook for L6. Onsites are yet to come. Once I get an offer how to present that? Or just GTFO?

If you get an L6 offer might as well resign at that point because there is zero chance you'd want to stay.
As a manager if someone comes to me saying they are "underpaid" or "underleveled" I'll do the usual smoothing and consoling, mention how Google is a great meritocracy and has an amazing culture etc. Of course I won't mention the open secret that you'll achieve a better outcome for yourself by shopping around because that's not in the best interest of the company. It's puzzling to me though how many people at junior levels either don't know this open secret or just have excessive attachment to Google.
