Hi I recently had couple of onsites which I got rejected .I think I did good on coding and design. But I m mostly working in Microsoft stack . Does that cause rejection? Is there any bias towards java / python compared to C#? One company told me design and coding were good but technology stack is totally different Thanks
Yes and no. If you have no Unix-like experience, that could be an issue.
Yes that was asked in my fb onsite . I told I have absolutely no experience in Unix or Linux :( . I had a very small experience but not confident on answering questions on those and all Te rounds were well so didn’t want to lose a chance by not answering. I m having 13+ yoe . Do you think that will slim my chances for coming interviews ?
If you're planning to do any full stack dev, it will be on Linux, using not-c#. If you're doing frontend only, you could perhaps get away without any of it, but honestly, spend some time and at least get comfortable using Linux. The only Windows only roles that I know of are in video transcoding or Oculus related things. Everything else runs on Linux. I think the problem is that because you'd be coming in as a senior engineer, you'd be expected to just know these things on the job. If you are able to pickup a new language and os quickly, then no problem. But if you're wanting to code in c#, on Windows, then this is a no.
It’s usually not an issue for big companies. Small companies prefer people with relevant experience because they hire a limited number of people.
13 yoe isn't hard to get familiar with Linux env in 2 weeks max?
Have you tried interviewing with msft?
Have an offer with them already
Congrats. Maybe msft is the place that suits you best
It’s highly dependant on the role you are interviewing for. If it’s a regular SWE interview then tech stack doesn’t matter at most companies as long as you aren’t just a JavaScript person
For a real engineer stack shouldn’t matter. In 13 years you’ve had plenty of time to research what’s out there. Especially with all the easy YouTube info there is no excuse.
I would reject you on the spot for not having proper understanding of the world and for being too siloed.

For three companies you tagged technology stack does not matter.
It’s actually not the companies I tagged other than fb
