Company doesn't seem that bad but people, OMG. In my new role I'm trying to learn about a tool. There are a few people who have knowledge about it. I professionally introduced my self to them via an email (because we aren't co-located and I couldn't talk to them on call because they are too busy) and asked via email if they can do a knowledge transfer session and the guy told me to put a calendar invite which I did. But since then everyday he either declines the calendar invite or he would move it to a next day. We have been doing this since last Friday. Is he really that busy that he cannot spend half hour to do a basic KT session? TC: 🥜
Sorry, but with your little rant that makes me want to ignore your invites too. Either your approach is wrong, or you don't matter at all to this individual. Probably the latter.
That's the biggest problem we face here. It's just expected that you will know everything. When they interviewed me for this position I clearly pointed out that I don't have the knowledge to these things..
I'm trying not to lash out. I'm asking the team politely how can we go about it. And not getting any helpful answers...
I m hating this.. :(
I’ve heard there’s lots of unpleasant people at JPMC. You’re honestly probably better off just figuring it out on your own, based on how he’s acting. If you think the KT is really important you should tell your manager about the situation and say it’s blocking you. It’s sad when people aren’t open to helping and collaborating, but sometimes that’s just how it goes. You can’t expect everyone to act the way you want them to.
Thanks Uber. Appreciate it. You are correct. I may need to tell my manager that I'm blocked and will need some help. I hope they don't take it in the wrong way. Hope they be a bit supportive about it.
I know someone, a senior manager at amex, that was a VP at Chase. He took 2 level demotion to get out
I'm also in the same boat. Looking forward for a good solution
There doesn't seem to be any solution. Just talked to an ED. Seems like they are playing with my career.
Could be the time of the month. My team is super busy bd-5 to Bd5
I left JPMChase because everyone fell into the "busy trap". Half of my coworkers did nothing all day but OMG SO BUSY! It's a carry over from the investment bank than makes the culture miserable. I haven't missed that miserable place at all
I need referrals for Android developer so that I can get out of here fast.
My ticket out was a random call from a recruiter minutes after I smashed a headset because my bosses self-serving BS. Good luck.
which tool is it? A lot of internal tools have more than adequate documentation plus examples along with active symphony channels if you get stuck. The developers of these tools really just are busy, and there are often better ways of getting the info you need.
Are you kidding me? It doesn't matter. Many times even when I was swamped I'd help people to the max even when I had to sit in office late to help people. Colleagues have called me at 4am in the morning to fix their bugs and I have helped them even then.. my whole life I have been good to others and now today when I need help I'm hearing this. I cannot accept such a bad environment.
So what tool is it? Some of these internal tools (without naming them, the pipeline software, the new sso software, the spring boot software) have tremendous user bases and very small developer bases. They invest in documentation because a developer support model doesn't scale. If it's another piece of software that's another thing, but you really have to go through more self discovery to figure out how these things work, not to mention the helpful people in the symphony channel who are further along in the discovery path.
i have been in this situation. what i can do is to learn by myself, ask a little question during some coffee break or quarterly townhall or something when people have to “pretend” they are willing to help. that’s it. sorry dude…
It's a good thing to learn on your own. However in the past few years I have learned that people are extremely selfish and greedy specially in corporate; they will never been you and they will never help you for free. This is such a bad mindset. This mindset is being cultivated all over US now a days.

Avoid teams with only Chinese or Indians especially with a Chinese/Indian manager
Company is made up of people. It's not a magical entity that stands apart from the people that work in it.
Yes you are correct but that's not the actual problem I'm focusing on right now...
Sorry if I misread. But that's what u opened with: "Company doesn't seem that bad but people, OMG. "
