Has anyone have experience of declining an offer after H1B approval is done in the company you were about to join. Please explain how did you deal with the situation?

  • I have.

Certain aspects of my personal situation changed after I accepted the new job, and got the H-1B transfer done. Also, my employer assured me that things that lead to me looking for a job will be fixed (I was only few months into my job then). So I informed the new company that I am declining the offer.

As a goodwill gesture, I offered to pay them the cost of H-1B. My employer reimbursed me for this as a spot bonus, although I had to cover the income tax for it.

    • @waitingfor unless one plans to quit, the question of an H-1B transfer does not come up. So, yes, I intended to quit.

The conversation with the employer happened when I announced my intent to quit. In hindsight, I should've talked to them sooner.

This is bad idea to talk before confirming transfer. They may walk you out.
