Wanted to post about this to educate potential new Hubbers since Github doesn't seem to publish this externally anywhere. Your total compensation at Github largely depends on your "zone" (where you are reporting that you live). Each zone seems to be a 10% either increase or decrease depending on which way you are going. Example: A 150k salary in Chicago Metro (Zone 2) converted to Ohio (Zone 3) will be around 135k, while 135k in Ohio will be converted to 150k if you move to Connecticut (Zone 2). Noting that this is for USA peoples. #github #compensation
How is chicago #2 lol literally one of the most affordable cities. Michigan and Colorado on the same level as Alaska and North Dakota what?!?
Staff engineers in zone 4 make less than SWE-3s in zone 1. It's stupid here
what about eu and JP
They don't have charts for each country outside of the US, just this line here: "Internationally, salary range data, competitive to each country’s major metros, is sourced specific to the country in which the role is based, ensuring that each salary range reflects the varying labor market conditions across regions. Ranges for new roles across our regions are added as our business grows."
thx for that
They consider Chicago Zone 2 but Austin Zone 3? What crack are they smoking? Chicago is more affordable than Austin. Denver/Boulder also Zone 3 despite being similar in cost to NorCal just outside the Bay. It’s like $1M+ for a non-shit SFH in Denver and 20-30% more than that in Boulder. This list makes no sense. Chicago should be Zone 3 and Denver and Austin Zone 2 alongside Seattle
Austin and Alabama in the same zone? That’s so inaccurate. Austin is definitely a zone 2 location
northern new jersey but not LA pepega
And people wonder why Trump won. This is very unfair.
Just don’t accept that. If everyone says “fuck that…” then none of that matters.
Curious about the compensation listed for Canada on levels.fyi. Are those numbers accurate and in USD or CAD? I’m thinking of applying to Github but don’t wanna waste my time if the comp can’t beat my current.
on the same boat, wondering how is the comp for Canada (Toronto) in different level
Canada is considered Zone 4. All of it.
Thank you OP
