I feel I dont have much skills for this industry yet. I have a Master's in Computer Science. I know a little bit of everything like java, python, javascript, linux, networking, sql, AWS..... But, a very basic knowledge of these technologies. I have a lot of anxiety now. Should I give up? Or still there is a way I can survive and be successful in this industry? Also my question is what type of positions can I target with my current skills and then I could get a chance to grow? I am just trying hard because I have loans. Thanks
Have you considered being technical product or technical project manager? TPM’s are in demand
I am in the same boat !! Hang in there.. learn to find a balance in life.. it will work wonders !
Sounds good!:)
How many yoe? Why do you feel you don't have much skills? Skills can always be honed if you are ready to put the effort and are dedicated. But before that, question to ask yourself is do you enjoy what you do? Also, software development needs constant learning. And because of the current sad state of interviews leetcoding if you want to change jobs. Are you game for all this?
1yr tech support experience. I am ready to put effort in algorithms/leetcoding. That would definitely help to crack an interview. But, I would need skills to survive in the job I think. Is there a position out there that would take me with my current skills? Thanks for the comment!
Why can't you learn on your current job? I don't think people expect a lot from 1 yr experience. Try interviewing. All you need is leetcoding skills to crack interview
Don't give up. I don't even have a cs degree at all and now I'm an sde ii at Amazon. It just takes people like us extra time, but we can do it too!
:) 👍
A lot of bigger companies look for generalists because they can put them anywhere and those engineers can be productive. So I would try to get my foot in the door as a beginning software engineer at a mid to large size company
Sounds like you're suffering a bit from Imposter syndrome. Full stack dev looks like it may be in the cards for you based on current breadth of knowledge
Ok. Thanks
Do MBA
What part don’t you think you’re good at? Specific languages and libraries? Maintaining old code bases?
Bruh you've just done a lot of different things. Pick something up from what you're working on and just hone those skills. MS and actual on the job skills barely have any overlap. Don't worry.
Thanks
Physics grad with 2 unfinished cs masters (dropped out) and no industry experience, now rocking GEs at E4 at FB. Believe in yourself and good things will come
