Finished the interview loop with fb london and received the verbal offer during which I found that I have been down levelled to E5. All of this after I categorically clarified with the recruiter right after my phone screen about level E6.
And now all they have to tell is the crap story about I not leading the conversation in system design interview and blah blah.
What i realised now, is that I was scheduled for a single system design round while generally for E6 you should be taking 2 design rounds.
What a piece of crap it is. BeWare!!

  • Or, maybe, they would have offered another system design interview to level you at E6 if you performed better in your first system design interview?

  • Seems like communication issue with recruiter. And yes, for E6 there are 2 systems design rounds, and only 1 for E5. Did you ask your recruiter why is it suddenly E5 instead of E6 as you discussed and why only 1 design round?

      Well, the reason for E5 is that I was not leading the conversation in system design round. Looks like a lame excuse to me. While before this discussion, the recruiter was that all rounds were very positive and its was an easy decision for hiring committee to offer me.
      Need to ask her why just 1 SD round.

  • It's weird how everyone is talking about the recruiter screwing up or FB not being transparent. The recruiter would love to get you in as E6, you are not interviewing for a specific group so recruiters have nothing to lose or gain from bringing you at a lower level. The company doesn't have to be transparent about the reasons either, you can legally ask about the interview feedback if you want to see what happened. It sounds like you indeed came as E6, but got down leveled. Your yoe doesn't matter, FB has clear E6 requirements and they would err on downleveling

    • I don't know what you are talking about. Recent grads are e3s, if you have PhD you are hired at e4. E5 is typical, you don't have to take the job if you don't like it. All I'm saying is that nobody is lying to the guy

      You are in hiring freeze L4, so hiring everyone with few years of noname company experience to L5. This completely devalues the level. Even if the comp makes sense, no way experienced people would join at such devalued level.
