I have an on-site interview with Glassdoor coming up. Curious to know what to expect during the interview rounds and also working at Glassdoor in general.
Glassdoor reviews aren't a best source of truth. Glassdoor is known to be sleeping partners with companies and delete employee reviews on request. Happened at spouse's workplace - a few days later the company review was gone from the site.
I disagree with this. We do not delete reviews. We delete reviews only if it breaks our rules. You cannot take personal names and do attacks or use swear words. We allow employers to show their best reviews on the top as a features review for money. But that's about it. All the reviews that pass guidelines are in there. Sales people always get calls to delete some reviews. But we dont. If we were in that business we would make a lot of money for a short period of time and then lose credibility and go out of business.
Ohh. Trying to wipe competition by starting rumors.😂. BTW did you read the question in OP or just jumped on seeing Glassdoor? I am assuming the latter.
Cons - 1. Lots and lots of good folk departures in previous months. 2. Pay is not comparable to FANG. But also not comparable to the 2nd tier companies. It's comparable to Marin pay or Seattle pay. Ping me if you need to understand more. 3. Commute is a bitch unless you work out of SF office. SF office folks don't get paid a lot either. Marin office is good if you live in Marin. 4. Not going public anytime soon. So don't choose company based on IPO potential. There is still a lot of work. 5. Extremely competitive industry. Indeed, LinkedIn, ziprecruiter, monster and all the 1 million job sites are competitors. So scaling is extremely difficult. 6. Sales focussed. Monetization problems. People need to sell sell sell. Engineering teams are small and secondary. B2B product is weak. 7. I have experienced bad managers. The smart managers are gone. Few teams have a good managers Pros - 1. Marin is beautiful. 2. Unlimited vacation. But YMMV 3. I like our CEO. He codes and is an engineer at heart. He is optimistic about the company like he should be. But still missing the firepower and kick in the ass product that will rocket. 4. You feel powerful in changing the world with reviews, salaries and information. Thinking of empowerment like Zillow offers. You feel good helping people make good choices BUT reviews, salaries information doesn't earn a single dollar. It helps to bring traffic but people need to look at jobs to get money. Full disclosure - I am actively interviewing. So don't think I am shitting on the company. Everyone has pros and cons. I spent a fulfilling x years here and I have stalled my growth. Hence the move.
I actually had a question regarding Glassdoor that maybe you could answer if you wouldn't mind. If you have an engaged employer that can see who visits their profile, won't they be able to tell who leaves the reviews? My former employer was abusive and now has all of these positive reviews that I'm sure were put in by management to skew their rating, but I'm reluctant to leave my own experience because they're now an "engaged employer". Thank you in advance if you can answer and good luck with your next opportunity. :)
There is no way any engaged employer or any free employer or any employer can ever see who is leaving the review. Even Glassdoor CEO cannot see who left a reviews. The moderators who review the review also cannot see who posted the review. They just content and moderate it. All the user information is encrypted and there is no way anyone can know who did it. The one thing I am sure Glassdoor does right is anonymity and following the rules of reviews perfectly. People can lie on reviews obviously. CEOs of company can create multiple accounts or ask employee to leave a positive review. But there is no way they know who left that review. Absolutely 0 chance. The company is built on anonymity and it cannot risk to lose business if it doesnt do a good job at it.
My Glassdoor interview (in SF coworking space) was very tough, but I also told them that I already had offers from Google and Facebook. Maybe they wanted to know if I was BSing them. Prepare medium and hard Leetcode.
I interviewed with Glassdoor a while back. They agreed to a good salary range over the phone and then lowballed me with their offer. They were really shady about the offer amount. Also, it’s in the middle of nowhere so you’ll have to eat what they’re serving for lunch everyday. This was for a Systems Engineering role though.
They have an office in downtown now.
Ah, good to know.

Did you try reading the interviews on Glassdoor?
Sorry.
I did. But nothing really helpful.
