It seems like the golden era of consumer social startups were 2005 - 2015. Those were the times when FB, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Dropbox, LinkedIn, Instagram and Snapchat all grew from nothing to something huge. Now that those companies are already big, I don't see another small 2-to-40 person startup making headway in the world of consumer social internet. The last one was Snapchat and that was founded in 2010. Don't get me wrong - I'm certainly not saying innovation is dead; the big companies are now making advancements in AI and machine learning. I'm not saying startups are dead either, but when it comes specially to the consumer social space, I don't anything new lately. Thoughts?
Freelance sites / apps are the new trend. Angie's list Moonlighter fixforbid.com takl Task rabbit etc.
The dot com era had more venture capital and I thought the same. fb was copied from college club. dropbox is xdrive etc.Nothing is really original it's just copied from another time, culture and place.
aren't y'all that app for NIMBY rants? sounds promising!
I definitely see where you're coming from, because from the outside it definitely looks like that. I think your perception is right because people think the social consumer space is filled by those that you've mentioned. What I think will happen is what happened with TV channels. There were first the big channels like ABC, CBS etc. As time went on channels became more niche and niche. That's what will happen the consumer social space. So yea we haven't even got to see "MTV" "VH1" or "FX" of the social space but, it'll happen.
