Which is the goldilocks city in states for tech? Considering TC, state income tax, savings, decent amount of tech companies, generating decent job opportunities, good city life scene, cost of living, affordable housing, community life, and weather. The scale is SF on the extreme left and Colorado/Utah on the extreme right. What do you think?
Definitely not Austin. Austin is super terrible and you definitely shouldn't move here. Austin is the worst. Yep, Californians would hate it here, its so expensive and crowded and dirty its like SF only ten times worse. Yeah. Definitely don't move to Austin.
Seattle and Austin are closest
SF, easily. Ease and opportunity of earnings easily overcomes housing costs. Wins everything else easily.
My honest opinion after living in Austin for a while (also lived in Seattle, LA). If you are average or not ambitious, Austin maybe the best out of 6. But if you want to grow your career and have at least 15+ years to work, you will soon run out of options. Hard to find 350k+ jobs. The reason why I'm saying this: I'm in my early 30s, TC: ~300k. I want to grow more and love to work as long as I can, because I love this field so much. Yes, I can move to a leadership or exe role, but few of the big companies who pay $350k+ for executives are in very bad shape - not company problem but they are super behind in terms of tech stack. Things move really slow here, also lack big corporates as Austin is a very small city irrespective of its recent population growth.
1st off: I didnât know Careem was still around after Uber acquisition. Hey Careem! If you can deal with winters then Boston. Live in NH which is tax free, housing is so cheap in comparison.
Don't move to Austin. Quickly turning into the bay area except all the shittiness of needing a car to live, bad weather, and fewer things to do.
Bad weather?
Chicagoooo, guys, you're sleeping if you don't at least check it out. Pros > world class city, clean city, amazing diversity, less expensive than Seattle/Cali/NYC, easier on you in terms of taxes, very comparable pay because there just aren't enough people with tech experience. Making just as much in SF as I did in Chi (where i paid way less in taxes) Cons > still a developing space. go there with your company + target co in mind as the job market is not nearly the scale as it is in other tech cities. it's growing but yes. lots of work to happen. great startup scene in healthcare is budding. it's a good town for fin services, healthcare, cpg/retail. not so great if you're looking for entertainment industry, music/gaming from my experience. interesting > google is expanding like crazy there over next 2-3 yrs
How one of the most dangerous cities in US could be considered goldilocks?
Spoken like someone who has never lived there, much less visited. Name your sources. As someone who's been here 20+ years and never felt unsafe, the sad sorry truth is that the killings you see amped up on media are almost always gang related and particular far west/far south parts of the city. Nowhere near where little yuppies like you would hang out. https://patch.com/illinois/chicago/chicago-saw-more-killings-any-city-isnt-most-dangerous https://www.mysanantonio.com/realestate/article/The-Most-Dangerous-U-S-City-Isn-t-Chicago-or-12737063.php
You have Colorado wrong. Purple to blue state now.

There is none, all the cities listed above have some pros and cons
Yes i know, but I'm sure there would be some in the middle with a balance of everything right?
I lived in 3 out of the 6 cities listed above, I gave up finding the best or a middle point. You have to trade off something big
