Hey guys, reposting for more visibility: My nephew is fortunate enough to hold 2 internship offers for his last and upcoming summer of 2020. The offers are for a Product Manager role in the Marcus org at Goldman Sachs, and a Technical Program Manager role at Splunk. He wants to be a PM long term but wants to remain in tech. Obviously Goldman Sachs has the big name value but Splunk may be stronger in tech. He’s really stressing but I’m SWE so I don’t have much advice to give him on the Product/Program side. What do you guys think? Thanks. TC 320k, YOE 8
PM at Goldman any day! Not just for the brand, TPM is a very different role compares to PM and I'd he wants to do PM long term, GS will be a great experience. GS can even be heavier than Splunk in tech.
GS.
PM role over TPM
This
GS. Product group in splunk is weak in general
@russno, if the product group is weak, how do you see Splunk’s situation in 5 years from now, especially or non-security products? Given that aws, azure is getting heavily focused on this area, and may try to eat into Splunk’s share.
but we do have a sales team who know how to sell. 5 yrs from now who knows.
No idea. Is Marcus building interesting products? I didn't go with them (as a customer) since they were/are only offering a savings product ( no checking etc).. I guess they must be building other products..
GS for fin tech. Splunk for data. Does he have a preference for either subject?
