Goldman VP salary 3.1 million, possible?

I heard a friend of a friend working at Goldman (vp since 2 years) in trading division earned about 3.1 million total comp, with majority being in stocks and in hand cash for the year as 600k. (i dont have the exact breakdown) Does that sound reasonable, or is it basically bluffing? The range I have seen online is about 150k + bonus A couple of questions : How does comp work at goldman? At a vp position, is majority of ur comp in stocks or base + bonus? If the comp is so high, why don't more people switch to Goldman from Faang?

VP in I-banking is a senior IC elsewhere.

I've not worked there and don't know the TC but I do know that even fresh Masters grads have gotten VP title there. Read somewhere that it makes clients feel important when they deal with a VP so many get the title.

In general, for Banking organizations - AVP = Team Lead (SDE-2) VP = Manager (SDE -3) So, whatever you heard is a bluff.

Can confirm. VP is the equivalent of a sr. Manager at most in tech. They have to report to managing directors or executive directors who may be in the $1M range depending on YOE. Source: came from banking

A high performing VP would make half of that base. MD's would be closer to that base and still short. That TC is what GS partners pull.

Depends- bank software side VP is equivalent to a 63 senior eng or lower - itโ€™s an inflated title - however equities side vp may be diff

is he in tech or a trader? impossible for tech, even MD. if trader, only possible if heโ€™s going to be MD this year and a star trader

I was recruited before as a software engineer, the position says VP, kind of strange then I realize everyone has the VP title. In GS, if you promoted to partner, you earn the most, 20M or more a year
